Now For The Real World

This last term has been a whirlwind – I finished my degree on the 26th June and it still hasn’t quite sunk in. It was full steam ahead doing my final project – hours on end in the editing suit and many nail biting rehearsals wondering what it would turn out like once everything was put together and asking ourselves ‘is this actually any good?’. Having started animating over the Easter break, we spent a good few months creating our production – it may have involved a hell of a lot of problem solving and many stressful moments, but I’ve had the most amazing time working with two other incredible women and the final show couldn’t have gone any better! The reactions we received were completely overwhelming and I must admit, it was all rather emotional! Now the dust is beginning to settle on memories of GradFest (the theatre and film showcase of graduate work) I’m spending as much time as I can with the friends I’ve made here and making the most of this beautiful city. I’m off travelling to Cuba early August and then to South America for an indefinite amount of time so who knows where I’ll be in a few months! But fingers crossed, I’ll be returning to Bristol when I get back from my travels – my work definitely isn’t done here. I haven’t got any plans for jobs as of yet but as they say, ‘the world is my oyster’ and all that jazz, so I’ll just have to see what comes my way. For those of you starting in September, I would say one of the biggest things to remember is not to put too much pressure on yourself to have ‘the best years of your life’, just make sure you find at least one thing to smile about each day. Spend time having fun, trying new things and exploring the city rather than worrying about the future. University has been a roller-coaster of an experience, honestly it’s been tough, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks Bristol, I’ve had a blast. Now for the real world!
