Racing To The End Of The Second Year

I love that our departmental society Studiospace allows theatre and film students to make some of their best friends across the years, but it takes a bittersweet turn as we draw closer to the end of the year. It seems mad that a lot of my friends are leaving this year and setting off into the adult world as we continue into our final year. I don’t really want to think that this will be us in such a short space of time. It goes so quickly.
I really enjoyed my third term as there was a great balance of practical and theoretical units. For the first time at university I found myself wishing an essay word limit was longer! Our term ended quite abruptly after an intensive fortnight putting together a performance for our last module. We pretty much lived in the Wickham Theatre and only had rare glimpses of daylight, but we managed to keep a good atmosphere and great sense of morale throughout, partly fuelled by coffee and biscuits. Part of what I like about my degree is that the practical elements have so much independence and it’s up to us to get the job done in time. It was an ambitious production but we all worked hard as a unit and everyone pulled their weight, and thankfully it paid off.
I’ve started teaching a new group of children at my drama class and have finally managed to learn most of their names which makes a world of difference. Having taken part in DramSoc’s Bristol Old Vic Director’s Course this term I have gone to lessons with new games and ideas to play with.
Now that my volleyball season has finished- our team won our league, just missing out on going into the premierships! It was a great season- I’ve started running as a way to keep myself motivated over summer. I’m looking forward to the challenge of a half marathon at the start of third year. Running is replacing volleyball as my active way to destress and keep fit until the season starts again next year.
