An Awfully Big Adventure

I can’t begin to describe how strange it is being in my last ever term of university, working on what is potentially the last ever essay I’ll have to write (it’s definitely the hardest essay I’ve ever written that’s for sure, they don’t make finishing easy). After that’s out the way I can then dedicate my last month to creating my final project; a 15 minute movement performance combined with animation which will explore the journey from childhood into adulthood, rather fitting subject don’t you think? I’ve felt so lucky to be working with two incredible girls on this project and can’t wait to see all our efforts and ideas accumulate into something we can be proud of. It’s definitely been my most enjoyable project so far, even with the amount of problem-solving we’ve had to do (never did I envision myself attempting to iron a 6x4m green screen on all fours at university). Spending time animating, choreographing and filming has made this process so interesting and diverse and has definitely made me think about the kind of work I want to be making after I leave. But it’s not just my own work that I’m excited about. The Film and Theatre Departments have an event called Gradfest at the end of May which is an opportunity for all the graduating students to show their final projects to fellow students and to the public. I can’t wait to see what everyone has produced! And of course, you can’t have a show without an aftershow party. Gradball is one of the Film and Theatre Departments biggest social events of the year, and it’s a chance for us final year students to go out with a bang – wild and wonderful costumes are always a must and the Studiospace committee made up of wide eyed first years never fail to kit out the department with an incredible array of decorations, transforming it into another world entirely. Once that’s over, all that’s left is my actual graduation! But until then, I hope to make the most of Bristol in the sunshine (fingerscrossed). I’ve already said how much I love this city in my previous posts, I can’t express it enough, and I definitely hope to return to it one day. I still don’t know what I want to do when I finish, but that’s ok. There’s too much out there to explore and discover to make a decision now! It takes time to find what you love in life, and I’m happy to wait until I do.
